Mason Moody of Letcher won the first annual Gate City Shootout in the bull riding event at Canton on July 31. One of Moody’s rides received a score of 87.5 points. He was also the only rider to ride two bulls for the eight seconds.

The Letcher Community Church held Bible School, June 25-28. The theme was “Jesus is the Ticket.” Approximately 75 students, helpers and parents attended each evening. Pastor Tim Pulkrabek taught a lesson each evening. Other activities included music, science, recreation, and crafts. On the final evening a carnival was held with a program for everyone.

The Special Olympic State Equestrian competition was held in Huron, July 12-13. Among the competing teams was the Mitchell Outlaws, which consisted of Julia Stach, Brent Hieb, Ian Ames and Matt Baysinger, all of Mitchell, Aaron Krouse of Montrose, and Kyle Clarmbeau of Letcher. The coaches were Rod Clarambeau and Shanna Jensen.
Krouse and Clarambeau were flagbearers during opening ceremonies.
