Despite suffering from a knee injury that brought her basketball season to an end for this year, Myah Selland had been performing so well prior that she was named Summit League Player of the Year for this season. Her stats definitely prove how she was chosen for the honor as she averaged 19.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game. She had 19 games where she scored more than 15 points, and she had a 52.4 field-goal percentage for the Jackrabbits against Summit League opponents.

Selland is in her fourth season at South Dakota State University. She has also been awarded as a member of the Summit League All-Newcomer Team in her first season and honorable mention for the All-Summit League in her second season. She was named Summit League Player of the Week in January of 2019. For the entire time she has been playing college basketball, she has been named to the Summit League Academic Honor Roll, and she has been on the Summit League Commissioner’s List of Academic Excellence for the past two seasons.

Selland is a 2017 graduate of Sanborn Central High School. She is an exercise science major and is currently recuperating from knee surgery to repair damage done to her knee in a game a few weeks ago. She will work on recovery all summer and is planning to be back on the court for the Jackrabbits next season as long as all goes well.

On the weekend of Feb. 12 and 13, the Korkow Rodeo hosted their Fourth Annual Broncs and Bulls competition. Layton Zoss and Tanner Christian both competed in the Ride ‘Em Rank mini bull competition on Saturday night. Zoss won his age division and the event. He was awarded a belt buckle and a $285 cash prize for his championship win.

Mason Moody competed both Friday and Saturday nights. He made the short go on Friday night, but didn’t complete anything on Saturday night. Lawson Zoss competed in his first bull riding competition during the event. According to his mother, he didn’t make the whistle, but he sure had fun.

The Zoss boys are sons of Charlie and Christy Zoss of rural Forestburg. Christian is the son of Kristi Weber and Stuart Christian of Woonsocket, and Moody is the son of Perry and Tracy Moody of rural Letcher.

Myah Selland, of rural Letcher, scored her 1,000th college career point in South Dakota State University’s 62-50 win over Omaha last Friday. She met the 1,000-point mark in the second quarter of the game, where she finished with 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals.

Earlier in the week, Selland had earned the Summit League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season for her performances against Western Illinois. In those games, she averaged 22.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in SDSU’s two wins over Western Illinois. In their second game against the Leathernecks, Selland set a career high with 29 points, and she also had 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals.

After missing most of last season due to a foot injury, Selland has come back strong and is playing as good as ever. The Sanborn Central graduate is having an outstanding season that could prove to be her most successful year yet.
