Woonsocket

On Wednesday, May 17, Woonsocket City Finance Officer Tara Weber was traveling south on 397th Ave., which is commonly known as the Mt. Vernon road. She was driving a Woonsocket City pickup to Mitchell to retrieve supplies for the summer rec concession stand. When she reached the intersection with 241st St., Dave Estabrook was traveling west and ran the stop sign and ran into the box of the pickup Weber was driving on the driver’s side.

Both the pickup Estabrook was driving and the city vehicle were totaled in the accident. Weber was taken to the hospital to be examined, where it was determined that she had a fractured sacrum, which is the bottom of her spine. She was later diagnosed with a severe concussion, as well. Estabrook had no reported injuries, but he was cited with a stop sign violation, expired vehicle license tags and a pending citation on no insurance.

On Sunday, May 7, Kylie Schlenker of Woonsocket earned his Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Schlenker’s final project to earn the highest rank in BSA, was a picnic shelter he constructed in the campground north of Lake Prior. He received funds to pay for the project from local businesses and community members, and the City of Woonsocket paid for anything that was not covered by the donations.

On the night of Wednesday, May 3, someone went into the public restrooms by the little league ball field in the center of Woonsocket and destroyed the paper towel dispensers, threw all kinds of things into the toilets and urinal, and made a huge mess of the facility. The bathrooms had just been opened that day for public use due to complaints received by the city about not having them open.

In addition to the damage done in the restrooms, the culprits broke in the door of the equipment room at the ball field. Nothing appears to be missing, but it looks as though a bat was used to do some of the damage in the bathrooms.

This crime has been reported to the Sanborn County Sheriff’s Office and is currently under investigation. If anyone knows any information about this incident, they are asked to contact the Sanborn County Sheriff at 605-796-4511.
