The high school youth of St. Wilfrid Catholic Church enjoyed an end-of-year fun night with a trip to Madison that began with supper at Pizza Ranch. After supper there was lots of laughter and team-building as the youth and leaders broke into two groups at “Unlock Madison” to do the Escape Room activity. One group completed “Escape the 80s” and the other group completed “Grounded.” Both teams completed their “escape” with a time that put them on the leader’s board.

In the past month, the Agtegra Cooperative has donated to several worthy local causes who serve Sanborn County. To start, as part of its commitment to serving local communities’ food security needs, Agtegra Cooperative has donated monetary resources to 25 food pantries across North and South Dakota, including Sanborn County. Agtegra received matching funds from a program administered by the Land O’ Lakes Foundation, which doubled the donations made by Agtegra to community food shelves and pantries. “We have a responsibility to our member-owners and employees to support the communities that they live and work in,” said Agtegra CEO Jason Klootwyk.

First responders prepare for electrical hazards

Mitchell – Emergency responders are usually the first to arrive on the scene of an accident or fire, so they face a greater risk of encountering electrical hazards such as damaged equipment or downed power lines. 

In an effort to protect and educate local first responders, Central Electric Cooperative offered free electrical safety training at their headquarters west of Mitchell on April 13. Attendees included local first responders, fire department personnel and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). The annual training helps improve safety and bridge the gap between first responders and electric cooperative personnel. 

During the training, Central Electric’s Manager of Operations Brian Bultje showed common examples of electrical meters and provided guidance on protocols for disconnecting power during an emergency.
