Anita Rose Degen, 82, of Alexandria and formerly of Woonsocket, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2020, at the Diamond Care Nursing Home in Bridgewater. 

Funeral services were held Friday, Sept. 25, at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 24, at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial was in St. Mary of Mercy Cemetery.

Born Aug. 7, 1938, to Albert and Margaret (Goergen) Wolf, Anita grew up on a farm northwest of Woonsocket. She attended country school and graduated Valedictorian of Woonsocket High School. After graduation she moved to Mitchell and worked at First National Bank until she married Adrian Degen on Feb. 24, 1968. They moved to a farm south of Alexandria where they raised five children and farmed together until Adrian’s passing in 2014. Anita then moved into town.

She was a member of the St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria as well as a member of the Sacred Heart League. Anita enjoyed embroidery, gardening, and reading. 

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Diane (David) Fessler, Tom (Lori) Degen, Brad (Melissa) Degen, Dean Degen, and Nancy Cremer; six grandchildren; sister, Barb (Ed) Lutz; brother, Mike Wolf; sisters-in-law, Donna Myers, Phyllis Gossel, Lavonne Johnson, and Lavae Dunn; and many nieces and nephews.

Anita was preceded in death by her husband; grandson, Derrick; sister-in-law, Eleanor Wolf; and brothers-in-law, Richard, Dick, Cliff and Eldon.

Karen R. Moe, 77, of rural Woonsocket/Huron passed away early Sunday evening at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls. Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 3, from 3-6 p.m. at Welter Funeral Home in Huron with family present from 5-6 p.m. and a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. A graveside service was held at Silver Creek Cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 4. Karen was born to Ray and Lois Eden (Kretchmer) on July 28th, 1943, in Huron, S.D. Karen attended grade and middle school in Huron graduating from Huron High School in 1961.  Karen continued her education at the Northwest College of Commerce in Huron briefly working at the county courthouse prior to moving into her lifelong passion as an elementary teacher.  Upon completion of her teaching certificate she taught in the Cavour School System.  Karen graduated with a degree in Education from Huron University in spring of 1969.   

She married Keith G. Moe on June 21, 1969. That fall they moved to the farm in Woonsocket where they started and raised their family.  She enjoyed supporting her boys in all their activities and could always be heard cheering from the stands. Karen fulfilled her dream as an elementary school teacher in the Woonsocket School System for over 30 years. She touched the lives of many students and will always be known as “Mrs. Moe.” Karen adored her grandchildren and loved watching them play, especially at the farm.  She was a faithful friend and dearly enjoyed her breakfast crew at the Plains.  

She is survived by her two sons, Kevin (Amber) Moe of Yankton, S.D., and Kurt (Kari) Moe of Sioux Falls, S.D.; six grandchildren, Landon and Brody Moe, Kassie, Gavin, Avah and Hudson Moe; sisters-in-law, Ila Anderson of Huron, S.D., Mary Alice Moe of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Jane Knutson of Long Lake, Minn.; and many loving nieces and nephews.  

Karen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Robert Eden; her grandson, Garrett Moe; niece, Ilene Cooper; and niece, Caryn L. Moe. 

Lois Ann Knapp, 81, of Danville passed away on Aug. 28, 2020, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center in Danville, Ill.

Private family services will be at a later date with inurnment in St. Wilfrid Cemetery in Woonsocket. Sunset Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Danville, Ill., is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Lois was born on March 9, 1939, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Olinger) Jackson, in Mitchell. She was a 1957 graduate of Lane High School. She married Robert Knapp on Oct. 22, 1960, in Woonsocket.

Lois was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Danville. She retired from the Center for Children Services as a Home Intervention Specialist and touched the lives of many children.

Lois served in several active roles with the Danville Light Opera including Production, Red Mask Players theater group as a backstage crew member, sang for many years with the Sweet Adaline’s, and was a member of the Danville Boat Club. Lois enjoyed coffee and her flowers. She was musically talented and in her younger years was a dancer.  She was also an avid world traveler. 

Survivors include her husband, Robert Knapp of Danville, Ill.; one daughter, Elizabeth (Brian) Howland of Bloomington, Ill.; one sister, Delores Bogenrief of Cedarburg, Wis.; two grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Jackson of Lane; a special friend, Carol Bursinger of Tomah, Wis.; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Patrick Allan Knapp; one daughter, Pamela Kelly; two brothers, Jerry Jackson and Darrel Jackson; and two sisters, Eileen Brosnan and Iola Miller.
