Delbert “Junior” Spencer, 80, of Huron, passed away on Monday, March 9, 2020, in Huron. 

His memorial service was on Saturday, March 14, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Burial took place at Maplewood Cemetery in Iroquois, with military honors. A memorial visitation was held Friday, March 13, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron.

Delbert John “Junior” Spencer was born on Feb. 5, 1940, in Arlington to Delbert and Agnes (Brudvig) Spencer. The family later moved to De Smet where Delbert grew up.

Delbert served in the United States Marine Corp in the 1950s before moving to Huron. In Huron, he met Marcelene Kirsch, and they married on Feb. 5, 1966, in Woonsocket. Over the years, Delbert worked at a few places, including being self-employed and hauling iron, cleaning up places and selling parts.

He enjoyed hunting, gardening, mowing, reading and watching football and racing. He had a great sense of humor, loved telling stories and making up funny songs, and had the gift of gab.

Delbert is survived by his wife, Marcy; his son, Bret (Linda Krohmer) Spencer; his daughter, Kelly (Les Giefer) Spencer; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Marcella Rogers, Linda (Mel) Moeding and Ramona (Glen) Naser; brothers-in-law, Dave (Beth) Kirsch and Jerry Kirsch; best friend, Tom (Joanie) Weber; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Agnes; stepfather, Bud Quam; mother-in-law, Marie Kirsch; father-in-law, Lawrence Kirsch; brothers, John, James, William and, in infancy, Richard; sisters, Peggy Lorenz, Gracie Lorenz Ward and Delores Corbin; brothers-in-law, Roger Lorenz, Kenny Corbin, RJ Ward, Lyle Lorenz, James Rogers and Marlin Fischer; two infant grandchildren; a great-granddaughter, Alyssa Spencer; two nephews, Rodney Lorenz and Eric Robinson; and two infant nieces.

Loraine Alexander, 90, of Huron, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2020, in her home at Huron. 

Her funeral service was 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 18, at the Mount Calvary Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday at the Kuhler Funeral Home.

Loraine Clara Huether was born to Ben and Clara (Schorzman) Huether at Alpena on Nov. 30, 1929. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1947. Loraine attended Business College. She worked for Swift and Company and CNW Railroad.

On Oct. 2, 1949, she married Ronald Bischoff. They lived on a farm southwest of Huron until his death in February 1973. She moved to Huron and was part owner and operator of a ceramic shop.

Loraine married Rodney Alexander on Feb. 15, 1975, and lived southeast of Huron until they retired and moved to Huron.

Loraine is survived by her children, Barbara (Steve) Anderson of Yankton, Ronda (Kevin) Tiede of Rapid City, Scott (Deb) Alexander of Alpena, Lisa Opsahl of Yankton, Rhonda (Lee Serfling) Wallum of De Smet and Eunice Alexander of Clear Lake; 18 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Ronald Bischoff and Rodney Alexander; son, Steve Alexander; and her son-in-law, Jeff Wallum.

Lois Forbes

Wessington Springs

Lois Oline (Solberg) Forbes, 92, of Wessington Springs, died Monday, March 9, 2020, at Weskota Manor Avera.

Her funeral service was held Friday, March 13, at Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs with Rev. Zach Kingery officiating. Burial was in the Solberg Cemetery. Visitation was held Friday, two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.

Lois was born on Dec. 21, 1927, to Julius and Lennie (Bridge) Solberg and grew up on the family farm south of Lane. She graduated from Lane High School in 1945. Lois worked at the Wessington Springs Courthouse with the “Court House Girls” after graduating from high school.

In 1950, Lois was joined in marriage to John Forbes at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. They lived on several farms around the Woonsocket area before moving to Redondo Beach, Calif. in 1957. By this time, they had five of their six children. Lois worked at the local newspaper in Redondo Beach, The Daily Breeze. In 1966, the family moved to Reseda, Calif., where Lois worked for some large printing companies including, Nu Art and Regency Thermographer as a typesetter and proof-reader. After all their children had graduated from high school, John and Lois moved to Reno, Nev., and Lois was employed by Harrah’s Casino as an executive secretary. They retired to Wessington Springs in 1993.

Lois enjoyed growing roses and gardening throughout her life. In retirement, she joined the Birthday Card Club, was the secretary on the Solberg Cemetery Board, crocheted baby blankets and crafted Christmas ornaments for her grandchildren, and enjoyed bowling and socializing with friends.

Lois is survived by her six children, Cathy (Dennis) Perry, Jean Ferguson, David Forbes, Delia Atkinson, Doug (Caryn) Forbes and Danette (Glenn) Miller; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren with one more on the way.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, John; siblings, Marvin (Mary) Solberg and Doris (Alert) Endahl; and sons-in-law, Reggie Atkinson and Jack Ferguson.
