Delores Peterson

Alexandria

Delores “Dee” Margaret Peterson, 80, of Alexandria, passed away on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Ava’s House. 

A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at St. Mary of Mercy Catholic Church in Alexandria. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service on Friday, April 5, at Will Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Oldham Cemetery, Oldham.

Delores was born on Aug. 12, 1943, the second of six daughters, to Ernest and Callista (Winker) Nelson in Ramona. She grew up in Oldham, where she graduated from Oldham High School in 1961, as part of the last graduating class.

Delores was united in marriage to Darnell “Doc” Peterson on Nov. 25, 1967 in Oldham at St. Catherine Catholic Church. Doc and Delores moved their family to Alexandria in 1969, where they made their home for 55 years and raised their children. Delores worked various jobs, including babysitting and working at Jarding’s Market, before going to work at Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell where she worked as an admitting clerk on the night shift for nearly 20 years. She retired in 2009 and took care of her husband until his passing a year later.

Delores enjoyed reading books and doing word searches. She was a Minnesota Twins fan, watched NFL games and enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s extracurricular activities.

Delores is survived by her two sons, Rick Peterson of Sioux Falls and Jim Peterson of Alexandria; daughter, Lynette (Kevin) Kingsbury of Letcher; 10 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosie (Charlie) Warner of Sioux Falls and Karen (Fred) Walters of Council Bluff, Iowa; three brothers-in-law, Rollo (Sharon) Peterson of Sioux Falls, Alden (Faye) Peterson of Minnesota, and Dale (Connie) Peterson of Sioux Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; granddaughter, Tanna Kingsbury; sisters, Cel (Bob) Halter, Shirley Nelson and Mary (Bob) Hitzemann; sister-in-law, Harriet (John) Bresee; nephews, Tom Walters and Bryan Halter; and a niece, Shelli Eberle.

William “Willie” F. Scheibe, 100, of Huron, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket. His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., on Friday, April 12, at Hope Lutheran Church in Huron, with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

William “Willie” Frederick Scheibe was born Feb. 26, 1924, to Wilhelm and Paulina (Heckenliable) Buechler at Virgil. He was one of seven children. Both parents preceded them in death in the early 30s.  Later, he was adopted by Fred and Minnie (Cloeter) Scheibe of Wolsey.  Willie was baptized and confirmed by the Rev. F.W. Leyhe of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Huron and most recently a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Huron.

William was a dairy farmer living south of Wolsey until moving to Huron in 1979.  He continued farming and dairying with his sons until retiring in 1984.  He worked for Wheat Growers Grain Elevator and volunteered at the Dakotaland Museum, Adult Day Care Center, Meals on Wheels, and the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.  He took up woodworking for a hobby. While a resident at the Wellshire apartments, Willie participated in many activities and enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.

He is survived by seven children, Sharlyn (Tom) Tobin of Sioux Falls, Verlyn (Kathy) Scheibe of Custer, Marian (Steve) Sprecher of Huron, Roger (Kay) Scheibe of Sioux Falls, Phyllis Schievelbein of Sioux Falls, LaVonne (Steven) Schaeffer of Florence, and Rhonda (Jerry) Jasmer of Huron; 18 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his sister, Marlene Rittle; brother-in-law, Jack Harris; sister-in-law, Jeaniene Woodford; and many nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris; both sets of parents; brother, Oscar Beuchler; sisters, Hilda Gimbel, Martha Schilling, Virginia Jenner, and Leonora Ireland; many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; and his special friend, Idel McDonald.

Memorials preferred to Prairie View Healthcare Center in Woonsocket, 401 S. 1st Ave, Woonsocket, SD 57385.

William Earl Stange, 77, of Mitchell passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024. 

His memorial service will be held Friday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell, with Rev. John Hansen officiating. Interment will be held later at Union Cemetery. A memorial visitation was Thursday, March 28, from 5-7 p.m. at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

William “Bill” Earl Stange was born Oct. 2, 1946, in Alpena, to Harry and Wilma (Speis) Stange. He attended Woodmansee Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Lane High School in 1964.  Growing up on the family farm, Billy worked milking cows, tending to the chickens, putting up hay, and helping with countless other chores with his siblings. 

After high school, Bill enlisted in the US Army in the fall of 1964. After his three-year tour, he returned home to start farming for himself. 

On Sept. 18, 1976, he was united in marriage with Nancy (Baade) Stange. They made their home in rural Letcher, near Storla, for the next 38 years. Bill and Nancy eventually retired off the farm and moved to Mitchell in 2014. He was never one to shy away from a long day of work, continuing to help with harvest by driving the combine until 2021. He taught each of his children many aspects of farming.

Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Laurie (Brian) Schaff of Spearfish, Gregory (Sarah) Stange of Letcher, and Brian Stange of Plankinton; three grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Swenson of Woonsocket, Lois Edwards of Letcher, and Judy (Dick) McQueen of White Lake; sisters-in-law, Jan Stange of Woonsocket, Kay Stange of Sioux Falls, and Ann Stange of Woonsocket; brother-in-law, Dennis (Kathi) Baade of Artesian; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Wilma Stange; sisters, Joyce Bowar and Carol Morgan; brothers, Donald Stange, Bobby Stange, and John Stange; brothers-in-law, Bill Bowar, Edward Swenson, Merle Edwards, and Bill Morgan; nephew, Jason Stange; and his in-laws, Rex and Edna Baade, Joan Schaff Kettlewell, and Darold and Carolyn Brink.
