Shilo Knutson

Letcher

Shilo Knutson, 50, of Letcher, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in Mitchell. 

A Celebration of Life service was held Friday, April 14, at Bittner Funeral Chapel with a prayer service. A private family graveside service was at Graceland Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements were by Bittner Funeral Chapel.

Shilo Jo Knutson was born Jan. 9, 1973, to Joe Knutson and Julie (Olson) Greene in Mitchell. Shilo grew up in Letcher and graduated from Artesian/Letcher High School.

After high school, he attended horseshoeing school in Oklahoma. Shilo then jockeyed for five years across South Dakota. He won many team roping awards throughout South Dakota. He worked at Mitchell Livestock for several years until his death. Shilo loved all his animals, especially his horses and dogs. He was also a member of the Horseman’s Sport Inc.

Shilo is survived by his mother, Julie (Terry) Greene; father, Joe; fiancé, Kerry Royalty; daughters, Tyann and Alaina; and brothers, Shain Knutson and Matlock Knutson.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Delbert and Charlotte Knutson and Gerald and Patricia Olson.

Roland Amick

Woonsocket

Roland Edmont Amick, 96, of Woonsocket, passed away on Friday, April 14, 2023, at the Avera Weskota Manor in Wessington Springs.

Roland’s visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. on Sunday, April 23, with a prayer service to begin at 4:30 p.m. at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron. A private family graveside service will be held on Monday, April 24, at the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron.

Roland Edmont Amick was born on Sept. 20, 1926, to Elmer and Clara (Kruse) Amick in rural Sanborn County.  He attended school until the 11th grade.  Roland served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was honorably discharged. 

Roland married Cherry M. Coon on Oct. 3, 1951, in Huron. 

Farming was Roland’s entire life, and he farmed until his health forced him to retire. Roland was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Huron. He was also a member of the High Noon Club, the Masons, and the Shriners.

Roland is survived by his daughters, Suzanne (Greg) Erwin and Sheryl Turner, both of Woonsocket; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Cherry in 2018; son, Kevin Amick; brother, Owen (Bessie) Amick; sister, Anna in infancy; and son-in-law, Joseph Turner.

Paul Webster Jr.

Oceanside, Calif.

Paul C. Webster Jr., formerly of Huron, passed away on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla, Calif., after a long battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held in Huron at a date to be determined.

Paul was born in Huron to Paul and Edith Webster. He graduated from Huron High School and joined the United States Marine Corps in December 1968. His military career spanned 30 years, with him achieving the rank of Master Gunnery Sergeant. His tours included: Vietnam; Marine Security Detachment at the U.S. Embassy in Caracas, Venezuela; Drill Instructor duty at MCRD, San Diego, Calif.; Recruiting Day, Bemidji, Minn.; Deployment to the Gulf for Desert Shield and Desert Storm; and Operations Chief of School of Infantry, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

In retirement, Paul enjoyed spending time with family, traveling and gardening.

Paul is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dawn; sisters, Trudy Schroeder of Sioux Falls, Kathy (Robert) Wingert of Woonsocket, Cheryl (Byron) Severtson of Huron; brother, Robert (Audrey) Webster of Cokato, Minn.; half-brother, David Stuefen (Arla) of Sioux Falls; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
