Clara Mae Tschetter, 86, of Huron, passed away Saturday, April 30, 2022, at the Prairie View Healthcare Center at Woonsocket.

Her funeral service was held Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Mount Olivet Church, Huron. Burial followed in the Ideal Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, May 4, at the Kuhler Funeral Home.

Clara was born May 7, 1935, in De Smet to Martin and Sella (Maxvold) Larsen.  Clara married Delbert Tschetter on Oct. 29, 1954, in Huron. 

Clara loved taking care of her children and working along-side Delbert on the farm. Clara was never one to be idle. Clara worked at the Huron Nursing Home as a Certified Nursing Assistant until she retired at age 72.

Clara lived in San Diego while Delbert was stationed in the Navy before returning to Huron and making their home on the farm. Clara was a member of the of the Mount Olivet Mennonite Church in Huron. She was baptized July 6, 1935.

Clara is survived by her husband, Delbert; her sons, Gary (Sharon) of Huron, Brian (Diane) of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Roy (Patti) of Huron; her daughter, Brenda (Brad) Bawdon of Alpena; eight grandchildren, including Tiffany Bawdon of Woonsocket; six great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.

Clara was preceded in death by her son, Dale Tschetter; her parents, Martin and Sella Larsen; her brothers, Arthur (Phyllis), Earl (Marcella) and Ivan (Karen); her sisters, Ellen, Amanda and Loretta; her in-laws, David J. and Mary Tschetter; her brother-in-law, Donald Tschetter; and her step-grandson, Troy.

Esther Madsen, 77, of Huron, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at her home in Huron.

Her funeral service was held on Thursday, April 28, at American Lutheran Church with burial at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in Huron. Visitation with a prayer service was on Wednesday, April 27, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron and a visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Esther Marie was born on Aug. 19, 1944, to Ernest and Marie (Pederson) Kopfmann in Alpena. Esther was the eighth of 12 children born. She grew up on the family farm southwest of Alpena. She attended kindergarten through 12th grade at Alpena schools. Esther was baptized and confirmed at the Earlville Lutheran Church near Wessington Springs. She ventured out, working part-time at the Alpena Café on weekends while going to school, but she always had chores to do at the farm first. After graduating in 1962, Esther began to work at the Hickory House Coffee Shop in Huron until her mother needed her at home.

In 1963, she met her husband on a blind date, and within four months, they were married. Esther married Ken Madsen at the Woonsocket Lutheran Church on Nov. 3, 1963.

Esther had a love of helping the elderly. She helped many individuals in their homes before working at the Huron Nursing Home for over 20 years. She started as a nurse’s aide then became the activity director. She also drove school bus for Huron and Iroquois schools. Esther was a member of the American Lutheran Church and Huron Senior Center. She loved music, flowers, and camping with her family. She also enjoyed quilting, embroidery work, and sewing.

Esther is survived by her husband, Ken of Huron; her three children, Vickie (Emmett) Harty of De Smet, James (MaryJo) Madsen of Apple Valley, Minn., Scott (Elizabeth) Madsen of Aberdeen; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her siblings, Eldora Hasz, Vera Salter, Kathryn Larsen, Doris Jager, Paul (Ina) Kopfmann, Lawrence (Karen) Kopfmann, Ivan Kopfmann, Darwin (Terri) Kopfmann, Ronny (Linda) Kopfmann; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws; her grandparents; her brother, Ordell and family; sister, Marvell (in infancy); three sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; and her grandson, Jared.

John Lee Lasher

Vancouver, Wash.

John Lee Lasher, of Vancouver, Wash., 87, passed away on April 23, 2022.

The Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 6, at Footprints Church, 801 NE 194th St., Ridgefield, Wash.

John was born on Sept. 23, 1934, to William and Christina in Raymond, Wash. He was the second of four children. He grew up in South Dakota where he graduated from Letcher High School in 1952. After graduation, he moved to Portland, Ore., to help his mom, where he met Delores Charlene. They married on June 3, 1956. They built a life together on their farm in Ridgefield, Wash. 

John spent his career running an autobody shop. After he retired, he loved investing his time in his farm and animals. He took pride in restoring antique farm equipment and was a member of the Fort Vancouver Antique Equipment Association. John loved his family, animals, collecting tractors, boating, western movies, and McDonalds.

John is survived by his wife, Delores; three children, Richard (Shelly), Donald (Sandra) and Linda; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darrell; and two sisters, Elaine and Marjorie.
