African Sunday at Trinity Lutheran

Trinity Lutheran Church of Carthage hosted an African Sunday worship service for the Prairie Lutheran Parish, which includes First Lutheran of Artesian, Immanuel Lutheran of rural Iroquois and Trinity Lutheran of Carthage, on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 9:30 a.m.
The service featured drum accompaniment to three songs by Joyce Olson and Hunter Avery, the Sunday school children of the three churches singing two African songs and a video presentation of a Cameroon visit by Eugene and Mary Weerts of Bancroft. The Weerts were part of a group that put a roof on a church in Cameroon.
Pastor LeShea Avery, Joyce Olson, Hunter Avery and Mary and Eugene Weerts dressed in African attire. There was a special offering for the Cameroon Roof Project.
Brody Uecker, son of Jeremy and Ashley Uecker of Artesian, was baptized during the service.
Kayden and Avery Turner, daughters of Kelly Olson and Jason Turner of Artesian, were presented Bibles. There were many African items on display for silent auction bids.
The Trinity ladies served lunch following the church service.
