This year’s candidates include the children of some Miss and Mr. Basketball “alumni.” Ellie Benson’s mother, JoElle, was the Miss Basketball winner in 1981 while Macy Miller’s dad, Alan was Hansen Anderson’s Mr. Basketball winner the same year. Troy Schaefer, whose son, Steven, is a candidate for this year’s Mr. Basketball, shared the award with Luther Hippe in 1983.
The luncheon is open to the public with tickets priced at $25 if RSVP’d in advance by e-mail to Tasha Lange at tlange@ncppub.com or toll free at 1-800-621-0801, or for $30 at the door the day of the event. Doors will open at noon for lunch with the awards presentation beginning at about 1 p.m.
In addition to selecting South Dakota’s Miss and Mr. Basketball, Hansen-Anderson also publishes the annual Prep Basketball Previews each November and is involved in promoting the summer Hansen-Anderson Basketball Camps.
