Elizabeth Frances Vittitoe, 85, of Howard, died Thursday, April 7, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard.
Memorial services were Saturday, April 9 at Willoughby Funeral Home in Howard. Inurnment will be at a later date. Visitation was one hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Elizabeth Frances Gordon was born on Nov. 30, 1930, to Adlai and Bessie Jane (Clark) Gordon in Marshfield, Wis. She grew up in Loyal, Wis., where she attended and graduated from high school in 1949. Elizabeth then attended Wessington Springs Junior College and received her teaching certificate.
She taught in a country school in Hand County and schools in Argonne, Plano, Worthington, Minn., Artesian and Howard. While teaching, she attended summer school at Dakota State College in Madison, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in teaching.
On June 6, 1964, Elizabeth was united in marriage to John Vittitoe at Worthington. The couple lived in Miner County where she taught and helped her husband with cattle chores for 49 years.
Elizabeth is survived by special friends, Dave Hahn, Barb Genzlinger and Jo VanDeWetering; and many friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John.
