If it can be made out of fiberglass, the guys at Woonsocket’s Fibertec Performance can build it.
A year ago the shed on the eastern outskirts of town was nothing but a storage shed with a dirt floor. Today it is a full-fledged factory, employing eight people and pumping out custom vehicle hoods, race car parts and pretty much anything that can be made with fiberglass.
Fibertec Performance purchased Ram Air Hood around a year ago, which fabricates custom vehicle hoods for many popular makes and models, from the ‘90s Pontiac Trans AM to the 2016 Ford Super Duty. Owner Garth Swenson estimates they’ve sold and shipped around 100 hoods just since last Christmas.
The Fibertec division of the business builds a variety of other items. Tim Prins of Fibertec just finished up a mold to build speaker boxes for high-end wakeboarding boats. He figures he has about 100 hours into building the mold, but the company has at least 30 so far on order to be shipped to Florida, which will begin to bring the per box cost down.
Fibertec also builds fiberglass enclosures for water pump stations and has been working with Dakota Pump, Inc. of Mitchell. Their next project is a UTV roof with built-in speaker boxes, which they plan to begin conceptualizing soon.
