Augustana Vikings freshman Shelby Selland was recently named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Freshman team.
Selland, a red-shirt freshman, has had an excellent season, starting 25 of the team’s 29 games. She has averaged 19 playing minutes per game, which has helped her score 6.3 points per game and haul in 4.4 rebounds per game.
Selland has displayed a hot hand on offense as a freshman, shooting 43 percent from the field and 32 percent from behind the arc. She had an excellent game against No. 10 Winona State setting a career-high in scoring with 17 points on seven field goals and three three-pointers made and four steals.
Her best rebounding night came against Sioux Falls, where she grabbed a career-high nine boards. She became a force down low blocking shots left and right.
Selland is currently ranked fifth in the NSIC in total blocks with 47 and sixth in blocks per game with 1.6.
Shelby is the daughter of Brett and Kelly Selland of Letcher and a 2014 Sanborn Central High School graduate. She is an exercise science major and elementary education minor at Augie.
