Verona A. Walz, 85, of Woonsocket, died Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Prairie View Healthcare Community in Woonsocket.
Funeral services were Monday, April 25, at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell with burial at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, April 24, at the Will Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Verona (Marsden) Walz, daughter of Harland and Lillian (Kvame) Marsden, was born Dec. 23, 1930, on a farm near Loomis. As a child they lived in the Plano area and Harland’s parents place by Loomis. Verona graduated from Plano School in 1948.
She was united in marriage with Kenneth Walz on Dec. 23, 1948, in Mitchell. The couple lived by Plano and Artesian, and then returned to a farm by Plano, which they purchased. The couple retired from farming and moved to Mitchell and then to Mt. Vernon.
Verona worked at Herters and then at Kmart, where she retired. She also worked in the kitchen at the Mt. Vernon School and had her own business called Granny V’s Ceramics. Verona enjoyed teaching children to paint ceramics and also enjoyed woodcraft, showing both woodcraft and ceramics at craft shows with her husband.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Walz of Woonsocket; three children, Dale (Vicki) Walz of Hot Springs, Diana (Rod) Descombaz and Dennis (Kathy) Walz, all of Mt. Vernon; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; a brother, Loris (Connie) Marsden of Kent, Wash.; and special friends, Irvin and Jeannie King.
Verona was preceded in death by her parents; a sister; a brother-in-law; and her father and mother-in-law, Ellsworth and Martha Walz.
