Boat ramps providing access to some beloved local lakes throughout the state were roped off recently, as the Game, Fish and Parks responds to a Supreme Court decision on a lawsuit.
Twin Lakes in southern Sanborn and Jerauld counties is one of the 20 lakes for which the boat access has been blocked.
The action stems from a lawsuit by Day County landowners who don’t want their private lands open for public use. The Supreme Court decision in favor of the landowners states that the Game, Fish and Parks cannot facilitate access to non-meandered bodies of water, such as Twin Lakes.
The Game, Fish and Parks does intend to leave the campground and park area open to the public and will maintain the area as they have in the past.
