Madalyn Vermeulen is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship sponsored by the First National Bank of Mitchell, and during the Sanborn Central High School graduation, she also received the annual Faye (Druse) Peters $1,000 scholarship.
The South Dakota American Legion Auxiliary annually awards the Junior American Legion award in memory of Thelma Foster, who was the founder of “Citizens Forum” at South Dakota Girls State. Madalyn received the $300 scholarship for her winning essay entitled “America, We Remember.” She also received the Junior American Legion Auxiliary scholarship from the Artesian American Legion.
Madalyn is the daughter of Rod and Connie Vermeulen of rural Mitchell. She will attend the University of South Dakota to pursue a degree in elementary education.
