Sanborn County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, April 2, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. with Chairman Ebersdorfer presiding. Other members present were: S. Larson, Ohlrogge, Blindauer, and P. Larson. Also present was Auditor Larson. Motion by Ohlrogge, seconded by Blindauer, to approve the minutes as presented. All ayes. Motion carried.
HIGHWAY
Stacy Mendenhall, Highway Superintendent, and Sheri Kogel, Highway Administrative Assistant, met with the board. Much discussion was held on the road conditions in Sanborn County. Motion by S. Larson, seconded by Blindauer, to enter an agreement with the state to provide for the striping and continuing maintenance of county roads within Sanborn County. All ayes. Motion carried. Motion to P. Larson, seconded by S. Larson, to hire Heath Larson and Dusty Kokesh for the highway department at a salary of $13.50 for the first 90 days, with an option after probation to go to $14.50. All ayes. Motion carried. Motion by Blindauer, second by Ohlrogge, to hire Jack Schulz for temporary weed spraying at $10.00 per hour. All ayes. Motion carried.
SURPLUS PROPERTY
Auditor Larson reported that when the water damage was done in her office it ruined a computer, scanner, and calculator. Motion by S. Larson, seconded by P. Larson, to destroy the equipment that was ruined. All ayes. Motion carried.
MASS NOTIFICATION
Jason Coenen, Emergency Management Director, met with the board to discuss a mass notification system. The towns in the county have been approached about going on board with us. Letcher has committed and we are waiting to hear from Artesian and Woonsocket.
BUTLER EQUIPMENT
Matt Tobin, Butler Equipment, presented a 310-06A excavator. The Commissioners are hiring out work that they do not have the equipment to handle. With the flooding and road conditions that the county has, a great amount of this work will need to be done. Motion by Blindauer, seconded by Ohlrogge, to purchase the excavator with thumb with a payment plan of five years. All ayes. Motion carried.
DIRECTOR OF EQUALIZATION
Penny Farris, Director of Equalization, met with the board for her yearly visit.
CONTINGENCY TRANSFER
Motion by Blindauer, seconded by Ohlrogge, to transfer $18,250.00 from contingency to the commissioner’s budget for the board’s share of the Letcher Fire Department Jaws of Life and Fiber Bar. All ayes. Motion carried.
