This year’s winner of the $1,000 L.J. Van Dyke Memorial Scholarship is Kadin Schlenker, son of Christine and Kevin Schlenker. Kadin is a recent 2019 graduate of Woonsocket High School.
Schlenker has done well academically. His extracurricular activities have included National Honor Society, Boy Scouts of America (earning his Eagle Scout rank), football, basketball, high school and community drama, chorus and All-State Choir, band and youth group. He will be attending Mitchell Technical Institute to study in the Diesel Power Technology program.
Linda Van Dyke Kilcoin, daughter of the late L.J. Van Dyke, established this scholarship as a memorial to honor her father. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of an individual that shows focus, determination and drive to succeed in whatever field they have chosen.
Linda and the committee were greatly impressed by the focus and drive of this year’s applicants in their chosen fields. All were impressive students. Linda encourages next year’s seniors to apply for this scholarship in the spring of 2020.
