Sunday, Nov. 14, the Letcher Community Church dedicated their new addition that was built by Mueller Lumber and took little over a year to complete. The addition holds a Pastor’s office, three new Sunday School rooms, a handicapped bathroom, and a storage room. There are movable walls that separate the classrooms and can all be opened up for additional seating when needed.

On Friday, Nov. 12, a semi-truck was traveling west on SD Highway 34 near Forestburg when the high winds took hold of the truck’s trailer and with the icy road conditions, it was thrown into the median and tipped over. According to Sanborn County Sheriff Tom Fridley, the trailer was empty which caused it more trouble with the high winds and icy road conditions. The truck and trailer tipped over and blocked the west-bound lane of the highway for about two hours. Traffic was re-directed by members of the Sanborn County Sheriff’s Department for a mile of the east-bound lane.
The Sanborn County area had a high-wind advisory on both Thursday and Friday of last week and then again on Saturday night, which made for some dangerous conditions for travel, especially by semi-truck. Hopefully, the blustery winds are out of the weather forecasts for a while.

This past Saturday, the eighth grade girls basketball team traveled to Hanson to play in the annual early bird tournament. The girls played Bridgewater/Emery first and won 38-14. Then they faced the always tough Hanson girls and came out on top in a good game, 22-20. Then, they faced the Howard Tigers for the championship. The girls got off to a quick start and led 17-4 at halftime and won with a final score of 24-13.
All of the girls played well. They all work very well together as a team. Defense was outstanding all day! SCW Blackhawk girls will begin their official season with the first day of practice on Nov. 22.
