Harlan Goudy, 87, of Mitchell, died Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2023, at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
Mass of Christian Burial was Monday, Jan. 23, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial was at Calvary Cemetery in Mitchell. Arrangements were by Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Harlan Clifford Goudy was born Jan. 28, 1935, to Clarence Clifford Goudy and Gertrude Henrietta Clara Fredlake in Forestburg.
Harlan was an avid athlete in baseball and basketball during high school and college, and was a baseball coach. He was a multiple medal winner in Senior Olympics. Harlan loved dancing at Ruskin Park, was an antique car fanatic, and enjoyed South Dakota pheasant hunting.
Harlan married Barbara Jean Hendrick on Dec. 31, 1960, in Phoenix, Ariz., and they were married for 62 years.
Harlan served in the United States Marine Corps. After his honorable discharge, he received his Bachelor of Science Aerospace Engineering from the University of Arizona. He worked for Professional Engineer Mechanical Engineering, and in 1976, he created and operated Goudy Engineering, Inc.
Harlan was a member of the VFW and American Legion.
Harlan is survived by his wife, Barb; sons, Kevin (Dolores) Goudy of Tucson, Ariz., and Kurt (Heather) Goudy of Newton, Conn.; daughter, Shawna Goudy of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and sister, LaWayne (Goudy) Petesch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gertrude, and his father and mother-in-law, Bernard and Maxine Hendrick.
