The Mitchell Christian girls gave the Lady Blackhawks a challenge Friday night, staying within a single-digit deficit for three quarters. The Hawks managed to break away late in the fourth to defeat the Golden Eagles, 63-53.
Shelby Selland led the way for the Hawks with 18 points. Myah Selland chipped in for 16 points, while Rachel Selland and Rachelle Moore added nine and eight, respectively.
SC/W had 29 rebounds, eight by S. Selland, and 18 assists, seven by My. Selland. Rachel Selland had four of the Hawks’ 10 take-aways. SC/W threw the ball away 20 times.
MCS was led by Becca Glanzer with 24 points. Alexa VanLaecken chipped in 13 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists.
The Golden Eagles (13-6) committed 15 turnovers, had 18 total rebounds, 11 assists and nine steals.
The Blackhawks are now 19-1 going into the district tournament. They were set to meet Wolsey-Wessington in the second round Tuesday night in Huron.
