On Monday, Nov. 29, several quilters from Spirit of Faith Lutheran-Methodist Church traveled to the Mitchell Area Safehouse where Pastor John met them. Thirty-seven quilts were donated – 25 were for young children and teenagers to be presented to families in Christmas baskets. Pastor Anderson blessed the quilts and those who would receive them. Afterwards, the quilters and Pastor Anderson enjoyed lunch at The Depot.

The Woonsocket Community Club and the Sanborn Weekly Journal would like to remind everyone of the holiday decorating contest they are sponsoring in the city of Woonsocket. Judging will take place on Friday, Dec. 17, for the categories of Best Business, Best Theme, Most Creative, Best Use of Inflatables and Best Overall – People’s Choice. To cast your vote for People’s Choice, drop an envelope with the name of your People’s Choice display in the black box outside of the SWJ office or e-mail woonsocketcc@yahoo.com on or before Dec. 17. All winning displays will be published in the SWJ and posted on the SWJ Facebook page on Dec. 22.

Black Friday specials lured shoppers to the Dumont Boutique, the Muddy Cup, CreativeWEB Apparel and Gifts and R.G. Beauty and Body Spa, which are all located in the newest building on Woonsocket’s Main Street (Dumont Avenue). The businesses continued some special pricing on Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday, as well, to help shoppers get their Christmas shopping lists taken care of while keeping their hard-earned money in Sanborn County.
