Darlene Boese

Yankton

Darlene (DeJean) Boese, 86, of Yankton, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2022, at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, March 21, at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket, with Reverend Kevin Doyle officiating. Burial was in St. Wilfrid Cemetery in Woonsocket. Visitation was on Sunday, March 20, at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home in Yankton, with a rosary and vigil service. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

Darlene was born May 5, 1935, to John and Regina (Thill) Keheler. She was one of nine children. She graduated from Alpena High School in 1953, and soon after, married Don DeJean. They were blessed with four children, Lynn, Greg, Theresa and John. They resided in Alpena and Parkston, until moving to Yankton in 1967. Darlene started her professional career at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton as an administrative assistant, and later, as a public relations director.  She then managed Christopherson Flowers for many years.

In 1985, Darlene married Kenneth Boese in Colorado Springs and welcomed three bonus children to the family.  The couple relocated to Rapid City in retirement, and Darlene later returned to Yankton to be near her children after Ken’s passing.  She was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church. She was a dedicated caregiver, hospice volunteer, church liaison to the homebound and served as a director of religious education.

Darlene loved hiking and fishing in the mountains with her grandchildren. She spent many hours tending to her flowers and creating landscape designs. She love to paint, sew and decorate. She was a kind and loving person.

Darlene is survived by her children, Lynn (Jeree) Meyers of Aberdeen, Greg (Lea) DeJean of Yankton, Theresa (Steve) Markley of Aberdeen, John (Kris) DeJean of Yankton, Bill Boese, Rick (Barb) Boese and Sandra (Chuck) Boese-Bacon, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth Boese; and brother, Bob Keleher.

Florence Tiede

Woonsocket

Florence Tiede, 98, of Woonsocket, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Ava’s House in Sioux Falls.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, March 23, at 11 a.m. at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church in Woonsocket. Burial was in Eventide Cemetery, followed by lunch at St. Wilfrid Parish Hall. There was a visitation at St. Wilfrid Church on Tuesday, March 22, with a prayer service, rosary, and time of sharing.

Florence Mary Brown was born in Parkston, the fourth of five children born to Bernard and Magdalena (Puetz) Brown. She attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Parkston High School, graduating in 1941. On March 13, 1943, she married Loren Tiede. After Loren’s military service in World War II, they moved to Woonsocket in 1947, where she resided until moving to Trail Ridge Assisted Living Center in Sioux Falls in 2016.

Florence was a life-long member of St. Wilfrid Catholic Church. She served as the choir director and played the organ at St. Wilfrid Catholic Church for many years. She belonged to the Alter Society, St. Joseph’s grade school mother’s club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Pony Hills Country Club, where the weekly Sunday steak fry was not complete until everyone gathered around the piano to sing while Florence played.

In her later years, Florence was an avid reader, and a master of crossword puzzles and word finds.  She loved her family and always looked forward to the Tiede family reunion, where she would occasionally still play the piano for all to enjoy.

Florence is survived by her seven children, Sandra Roti of Sioux Falls, Lynette (Tom) Ball of Aberdeen, Stuart (Pam) Tiede of Sioux Falls, Allison (Tim) Weaver of Wheatland, Wyo., Kevin (Ronda) Tiede of Rapid City, Corwyn (Lori) Tiede of Rogersville, Ala., and Jeff (Vickie) Tiede of Woonsocket; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loren; her mother-in-law and father-in-law; all of her brothers and sisters; all of her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; a great-granddaughter, Meghan Rose Schardin; and a granddaughter, Erin Elizabeth Tiede.

Dorothy L. Ransom, 88, of Huron, passed away Saturday March 12, 2022, at Avantara Healthcare-Huron. 

At her request, there was a closed casket visitation on Thursday, March 17, at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with a prayer service. A private family graveside service will be held at the Wessington Cemetery at a later date.

Dorothy Lorraine (Sharpe) Ransom was born Aug. 27, 1933, at Huron to George and Leota (Willard) Sharpe.  Her parents divorced, and she was raised by her mother, Leota, and Clyde Willard. She received her education at Wessington, Sand Creek Consolidated, Beadle County and Huron.

Dorothy married LaVerne Ransom on April 23, 1948, at Woonsocket. They lived on their farm in Sand Creek Township for 42 years. They moved to Huron in 2000.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Dennis (Sandi) Ransom; daughters, Jeanne (Steve) Carstens and Joni (Kevin) Hvam; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Norm (Sharry) Willard; sister-in-law, Dorothy Willard; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Jamie Zepp; her parents; husband, LaVerne; brothers, Keith and Clyde “Bear” Willard; sister, Elva Erdahl; and brother-in-law, Leland Erdahl.
