The Woonsocket FFA chapter is going strong again this year with over 35 members.
The chapter officers elected at the chapter banquet in May are: President Jonathan Linke, Vice President Rex Schlicht, Secretary Tayla Weber, Treasurer Corrie Snedeker, Reporter Lacey Christensen, Sentinel Brady Tiede, Student Advisor Ashlynne Terkildsen, Historian Shay Swenson and Parliamentarian Gabby Twedt. The chapter is looking forward to another successful year in fall and spring CDEs.
This summer the chapter sent Jonathan Linke, Brady Tiede and Corrie Snedeker to West River Leadership Retreat in Custer. The annual Fourth of July barbeque was held which was very successful.
Starting the school year, the chapter had a few members participate in FFA livestock shows at the State Fair. Three members participated in the Land Judging contest in Wessington Springs and one member in the Range Judging Contest. Jonathan Linke placed 14th and received a silver medal in Range Judging. He also earned a FFA Jacket through the SD FFA Foundation Blue Jackets Bright Futures FFA Jacket Program.
The chapter sent two members, Tate Ziebart and Corrie Snedeker, on the state bus to the National FFA convention in Indianapolis, Ind.
The first meeting of the year was held on Wednesday, Oct. 10 in Mr. Gross’ room. Jonathan Linke called the meeting to order and opening ceremonies were conducted. The secretary’s report was given by Secretary Tayla Weber.
The last regular meeting was the Woonsocket FFA Chapter Banquet in May.
Members were recognized for their success over the 2011-2012 school year.  The seventh graders received their Discovery Degrees and the freshmen received Greenhand Degrees. Aaron Linke received Star Discovery, Jonathan Linke received Star Greenhand and Corrie Snedeker received Star Chapter. Awards were given for CDEs that chapter members had participated in throughout the year.
The chapter adopted a Constitution. It was moved that the chapter would pay each member’s state and national dues.
Fruit sales have begun and are due Nov. 14, so if you would like to order fruit please contact Mr. Gross at the school or a FFA member. Fruit will be delivered in early December.
The chapter is also looking at getting a chapter T-shirt.
The chapter accepted the 2012-2013 Program of Activities created by the officer team.
FFA members are currently working on their fall CDEs and will be going to the District 4 contest at MTI on Nov. 4. If anyone makes it to the state contest, it will be held in Pierre Dec. 2-3. Jonathan Linke is running for a District Office. That will finish up the fall semester and in the spring members will be participating in Spring CDEs.
