The Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks are set to play in the first round of the 9AA football playoffs Tuesday, Oct. 29.
The Hawks will most likely face Kimball/White Lake, who are responsible for one of the Blackhawks’ two losses on the season. WWSSC met the WiLdKats in White Lake for the opening game of the 2013 season on Aug. 30 and were dealt a tough 14-24 loss.
Since that first game the Hawks lost one more to Hitchcock/Tulare (5-1) on Oct. 4, but have beaten their other four opponents by an average of 27 points.
With last Friday’s loss to Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan, who are 7-1, ranked first place in the region and second statewide, KWL stands at 5-2 and second place in the region. The WiLdKats have amassed 48.286 power points. B-E/E has a final week bye and currently holds 51.125 power points.
The Hawks are also 5-2, have racked up 47.429 power points and are currently third in Region 3.
First round home field advantage will be determined following Thursday’s final regular season game. KWL faces Corsica/Stickney (4-3, fourth place in 9A Region 3) at Stickney, while the Blackhawks are at home against Wolsey/Wessington (6-0, second place in 9A Region 3).
Kickoff is Thursday night at 7 p.m. in Woonsocket.
