Mary Frances Setterstrom, 95, of Wessington Springs, died Wednesday morning, Feb. 13, 2013 in the Prairie View Care Center, Woonsocket.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 16 in the United Church of Christ, Wessington Springs, with Rev. Sara Olson Dean officiating. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation was Friday from 5-7 p.m. in the Basham Funeral Home. An Eastern Star Service was also held at 7 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Mary Frances Robbins was born Sept. 17, 1917 at Chilhowee, Mo. to Frank and Roxie (Evans) Robbins. The family moved to Wessington Springs in 1924 when Mary was six. She attended country school and graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1936. She then attended Wessington Springs Junior College for one year. She taught country school for three years.
On June 3, 1942 she married Paul Setterstrom in the Methodist parsonage at Huron. Soon after their wedding Paul left for overseas duty in India for three and a half years. While Paul was overseas Mary moved to Huron and worked as a telephone operator. After Paul’s discharge they moved back to Wessington Springs where he became a building contractor.
In 1960 they purchased the Bowling Dome in Chamberlain and ran it for 10 years. After selling the Bowling Dome they built a new house in Pukwana. In 1982 they moved back to Wessington Springs where they built a house and lived until his death in 1992. Mary later moved to Weskota Apartments. In August 2012 she moved to Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket where she lived until her death.
Mary enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with family and friends. Mary was also a very avid Minnesota Twins fan.
She belonged to the UCC Church, Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary. She held offices and worked for all.
She is survived by her brother, Keith (Marilyn) Robbins; one sister-in-law, Esther Hodges; eight nieces and nephews and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul; two brothers, Levi and Harold; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie and Betty; and one nephew, Russell Robbins.
