Rachel Peterson, 100, died  Friday, Feb. 3, 2013 in First Light Hospital, Mora, Minn.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 in Opstead Baptist Church with Rev. Perry Johnson officiating. Burial was in Opstead Baptist Cemetery.
Rachel Rosamond Okken Peterson was born to John Jesse and Anna (Voges) Okken at Lennox, on Dec. 16, 1912. She was the third of six children. She grew up in Lennox and Woonsocket, graduating from high school in 1929.
In 1934 she married Carl Olaf Peterson. They had five children: Douglas, Susan, John, Eunice and Brent.
She belonged to Opstead Baptist Church and served as the Sunday school secretary for many years, and was also a member of the Mission Circle. She took care of the farm and children while Carl was working on construction. She later worked part-time baking pies and as a cook at a Boy’s Ranch.
Rachel loved flowers, picking berries with friends, planting and taking care of a big garden, the farm animals and seeing her family when they visited.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Clifford, Charles and Harry; her sisters, Adeline and Marion; her husband, Carl; and her sons, Douglas and John.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (Leo) Bye-Elya of Hackensack, Minn.; her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Peterson of Gulfport, Miss.; her daughter, Eunice (Jerome) Kohlgraf of McGrath, Minn.; her son, Brent (Judy) of McGrath; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were by Mille Lacs Lake Funeral Home, Mora, Minn.
