Both the Sanborn Central and Woonsocket quiz bowl teams competed in the final rounds of the Q107 Quiz Bowl on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre in Mitchell.
In their first round of the day, the Sanborn Central team (Shelby Selland, Jessica Schmit, Hannah Spelbring, Shane Nelson and Joe Hetland) defeated the Woonsocket team (Marissa Weber, Savannah Swenson, Johnathan Linke, Austin Ball, Amberiah Smith – not pictured).
The Sanborn Central team went on to win first place and received the $1,000 award. The Woonsocket team took sixth place and were awarded $250.
Corey Flatten was the Sanborn Central advisor and Mitch Korbel and Rod Weber, not pictured, was the advisor for Woonsocket.         Both teams made it to the final round by beating other schools, large schools included, in competitions held over the phone in November and December.
