Former Woonsocket coach to be inducted into National Hall of Fame

Woonsocket native and former Woonsocket basketball coach and superintendent Dan Moran is being inducted into the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame at their annual convention on June 28 in Louisville, Ky.
Moran, who currently resides in Madison, was nominated by the South Dakota Coaches Association. The selection was based on longevity, service to high school athletics, honors and other specific state criteria.
In 30 seasons coaching varsity boys basketball teams, Coach Moran’s record was 458 wins and 198 losses. His 1981 Stickney Raiders team was the State Class “B” Champions.
Moran was hired on as Woonsocket School Superintendent in March of 1991 and later that summer, he also took the boys basketball head coaching job. In his first year as coach in Woonsocket, he took his team to the 1992 State “B’s” and brought home the consolation championship.
The NHSACA is the oldest coaches association in the nation and has inducted members into its various categories since 1996.
