Girls beat Springs in first District game

The SCW Blackhawk girls got an easy semifinal win over Wessington Springs last Tuesday, 65-28, at the Huron Arena.
Junior Myah Selland put up 19 points in the effort, along with seven rebounds, six assists, five steals and six blocks. Abby Doering chalked up 15 points and Tayla Weber added on 13 points and five rebounds.
Megan Poyer wrote her name in the books with seven points and Maddie Vermeulen gave a well-rounded performance with two points and five each rebounds, assists and steals.
The Hawks shot 49 percent on 28-of-57 from the field and made seven out of 11 possible free throws.
Jaycee Hohn led Springs with 10 points and Maddie Gran led in rebounds with 10. The Spartans shot just eight out of 38 attempts from the floor for 21 percent and went 12-of-19 from the line.
Wessington Springs took the advantage in rebounds, 32-24, but committed 28 turnovers.
SCW moved into the District 6B Championship game where they took on James Valley Christian Thursday evening.
