Several teachers from Woonsocket and Sanborn Central school districts attended a three day S.M.A.R.T. workshop last week at Mitchell Middle School in Mitchell.
Judy Hinker and Sarah Jensen of Woonsocket School District attended the workshop, which was geared to help students develop skills for academic success. Kim Sevareid, Cheryl Schmit, Jennifer Larson, Jill Reimer, Deb Ogle, Mallory Fisher (student teacher), Krista Moore, Robin Moody, Jeannette Knigge, and John Harless of Sanborn Central School District also attended the workshop.
Teachers from Woonsocket and Sanborn Central school districts were introduced to S.M.A.R.T., or Stimulating Maturity through Accelerated Readiness Training, along with teachers from seven other area school districts. S.M.A.R.T. is a mutli-sensory approach to learning. It is a program created by A Chance to Grow through the Minnesota Learning Resource Center.
Teachers learned and practiced a variety of hands-on and brain stimulating activities during the three-day workshop. The activities will develop and enhance both physiological and neurological readiness skills to help children be more successful in school. Activities will also develop students’ motor skills, visual perception and hand-eye coordination.
