The Union Farmhands 4-H Club met in Artesian at Bob Schmits’ Seed Company on Sept. 18 at 4:30 p.m. Vice President Sarah Morgan called the meeting to order, with Aubrey Senska leading the Pledge of Allegiance and Catherine Bechen leading the 4-H pledge. The Roll call of: “What is your favorite sport for the school year?” was answered by: Amber Schelske, Dana Schelske, Alex Schelske, Katie Schmit, Austin Schmit, Sawyer Senska, Aubrey Senska, Catherine Bechen, Sarah Morgan and guest speaker Cole Moody. Dillon Moore was absent.
The treasurer’s report was given by Katie Schmit. With a motion from Catherine Bechen and seconded by Amber Schelske, the club approved the total treasury balance. Catherine Bechen gave the secretary’s report. This was approved by Katie Schmit and seconded by Sarah Morgan.
Old business was discussing the new 4-H shirts for the club at $12 each. The club settled on a style and gathered all the shirt sizes. Afterwards, they decided to order 100 calendars from S & M Printing for yearly sales.
New business: The club notified members that the record books were due to the extension office by Oct. 1. With Alex Schelske’s motion and Sawyer Senska’s second, the club decided to donate $50 to the Angle Tree during the next RadioThon.
Guest speaker Cole Moody talked about Performing Arts camp in June. Questions were asked.
The next order of business was presentations: Sawyer Senska’s illustrated talk on “A Horse Bit on an Old Piece of Barn Wood”; Alex Schelske with a demonstration on “How to control a remote helicopter”; Sarah Morgan’s demonstration on “How to Make a Burlap Wreath”; Katie Schmit’s illustrated talk on her Autobiography project from eighth grade; Catherine Bechen’s demonstration on “How to make a pot hanger out of an old Shirt”; Aubrey Senska with an illustrated talk on “How to take care for Hermit Crabs”; Dana Schelske demonstrating on “How to make a Sensory Bottle”; and Amber Schelske with a demonstration on “How to Show a Dairy Cow and Everything That Goes into Showing It”.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting at 5:58 p.m. by Sarah Morgan and seconded by Katie Schmit. Snacks and drinks were provided by Sawyer Senska, Aubrey Senska and Sarah Morgan.
