The Woonsocket Community Center was packed with a large crowd of curious residents that attended the open house on Sunday afternoon to show off the new theatre addition on the north end of the building. The event, sponsored by the Woonsocket Development Corporation and the Woonsocket Community Club, included a free will donation pork sandwich meal, along with musical and literary performances by Woonsocket Elementary and High School students, and a “Marriage Game” to top off the festivities.
The new addition includes a stage with lighting and sound systems, dressing rooms, a storage room and restrooms. The $120,000 project was funded by generous private donations and monetary commitments from the City of Woonsocket and the Woonsocket School. The school also funded the sound system.
Several events are already scheduled for March, including the spring school play and the annual community play.
