The Letcher Legion Auxiliary met on Monday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. President Sandi Ruml called the meeting to order. Chaplain Pat Nelson read the opening prayer. Roll call was answered by five members present.
There were no minutes from the last meeting or treasurer’s report, as secretary/treasurer Kathy Northrup was absent. The good turn out for the turkey night bingo held in December was discussed.
Old Business: Having Santa meet with kids in the morning or evening in conjunction with the turkey bingo. Discussed peanut allergies and possibly doing more healthy food in the Santa sacks. Both items were tabled until later on.
Members discussed discontinuing giving the dictionaries to the third graders anymore due to kids not using them with the Internet available. The money could be better spent on the 10 for 10 Education Program the Auxiliary sponsors and buying more supplies for the teachers along with the hats and mittens usually given. Another program to give more to would be the Snack Pack Program at the Letcher church.
New Business: The mid-winter conference in Oacoma will be held Feb. 10-12. Donnie and Edith Moe will probably go. Forms for that were given to Edith. Members discussed sending out reminder cards to those that have not paid their dues for the 2016 year yet. Dues can be sent to Kathy Northrup or Sandi Ruml. Dues are $18 for senior members or $3 for juniors.
The Firemen’s Appreciation Supper tentatively was set for Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. It has to be confirmed with the firemen yet. This is a pot luck supper to honor all firemen and EMT’s.
President Ruml has been in communication with the chaplain of the SD National Guard about projects that the unit can help with. There is a need for Bibles to be used for the chaplains to hand out at events. Chaplain Heckenlaible will let members know of any other items they may need that can be provided as a unit.
Chaplain Nelson read the closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned. Hostess was Cindy VanLacken.
The next meeting will be Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. with Jane Amick as hostess.
