The Artesian First Lutheran Church Women and others from the community met for Bible study and quilting at 6:30 p.m. at the church on Thursday, Jan. 5. They welcomed the community ladies who joined them: Wanda Effling, Jane Marten, Jean Wormstadt and Terry Moore. Also present were Judy Wormstadt, Judi Larson, Deanna Dean and Jerolyn Dean.
Judy Wormstadt opened with devotions and led Bible study titled “True Confessions” based on Nehemiah 9: 1-5 and James 5: 13-20.
Following the Lord’s Prayer and table blessing, lunch was served by Judy Wormstadt.
The ladies ended 2016 with several outreach projects completed in December. Quilts and other baby items were donated to the Plus One Project in Huron, and quilts/blankets were donated to the Abbott House and Mitchell Area Safehouse. Five turkeys and a box of non-perishable food items were donated to the Sanborn Food Pantry for their Christmas boxes that were given to Sanborn County families on Dec. 20. A donation was made to the Salvation Army Angel Tree Radio Telethon.  Also, fruit baskets were delivered to new families, shut-ins, and special folks in the community and the church.
Upcoming projects include making a fleece blanket for their senior graduate, Garret Dean. The group will continue to make quilts, a good project for the cold winter months.  Thrivent money has been received to further the quilting projects.
