Artesian Town Board minutes

Unapproved Minutes -  May 1, 2019

The Town of Artesian Council met on May 1, 2019, in regular session at the Artesian Community Center.  Council Member K. Effling called the meeting to order with Council Member T. King, Council Member C. Danek and Finance Officer G. Effling present.  Also present was Tom Fridley.

The minutes of the April 3, 2019, meeting were read, motion by Danek, seconded by King, motion carried.  Financial reports were read; motion by King, seconded by Danek, motion  carried.  The following vouchers were presented for the month; motion by King, seconded by Danek, motion carried.

Artesian Fire Department – $125.00

Dawson Construction Inc. – $1,005.52

Gwen Effling – $617.02

Tom Fridley – $364.00

Travis King – $112.00

Sanborn County Auditor – $500.00

Sanborn Weekly Journal – $384.40

Schmit Ag – $1,350.00

USDA – $1,116.00

Town of Artesian – $166.66

United States Treasury – $621.05

Xcel Energy –  $1,132.43

Old Business: 

Streets – bids were opened for gravel and awarded to Dawson Construction, motion by King, seconded by Danek, motion carried.

The City will do the mowing of city lots this year. 

Discussion was held on the West Nile grant. 

Discussion was held on the lagoon and the drain tile on the south end of town. Motion by Danek, seconded by King to join the District III, motion carried.

The board discussed playground equipment at the city park/campground and are still looking for equipment. The city will maintain the ball field throughout the summer.

Discussion was held on the bath house at the campground, and the city is for bids to update the structure. 

Oath of office – motion by King, seconded by Danek to appoint Kurt Effling on as council member for one year; motion by Effling, seconded by Danek to appoint Travis King on as council member for one year; motion by Danek, seconded by King – Kurt Effling as Town President, motion carried.

New Business: 

Gwen Effling resigned as Finance Officer, effective July 1, 2019. G. Effling will be removed from all deposit accounts at CorTrust Bank and replaced with Molly Ebersdorfer on July 1, 2019.  

The Council reviewed accounts receivable.

The board discussed the city shed garage doors, and a bid was opened. The board is requesting a revised bid.

City wide clean up day was discussed, with a tentative date in the first week of June. 

The city lots by the ball diamond were discussed. Tree branches may be placed on the cement pad at the tennis court.   

The next regular meeting is scheduled for June 5, 2019, at the Artesian Community Center at 7:30 p.m.

There being no further business motion by Danek, seconded by King to adjourn, motion carried.
