The current $250,000 seven-year Woonsocket School opt-out has expired. During the last school board meeting on Feb. 12, the Woonsocket School Board reauthorized to continue the same opt-out for another seven years.
The opt-out allows the district to collect up to $250,000 in taxes to cover the short fall of any general fund operating expenses. The school would be unable to fund educational programs at the current level without these additional funds. In the past, the district has collected around $125,000, but last year, the school collected $0 and this year $25,000. The low amount collected recently has been due to spending down the general fund balance and to the school’s increased enrollment.
The school appreciates the community’s support and will continue to work hard to make our school even more successful. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Supt. Rod Weber.
