Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks took on the Garretson Blue Dragons Aug. 28 on a windy evening in Garretson. The non-conference game featured two run dominant teams that both came in with 1-0 records. The Blackhawks overcame mistakes to win the game 20-3.

In a game riddled with turnovers for both teams, the Blackhawks fumbled the opening kickoff to give Garretson field position inside the Blackhawks 20. After a quick first down on a trap play, the Blue Dragons faced first and goal from the 5. The Blackhawks defense stepped up and Garretson settled for a 22-yard field goal to take a 3-0 lead with 9:23 left in the first. That would be the only score for Garretson.

The Blackhawks (2-0) travel to Winner (2-0) on Sept. 4 for an SESD Conference matchup. Winner is ranked #1 in Class 11B and defeated St. Thomas More 36-7 last week. The game is scheduled to have a 7 p.m. kickoff.
