On Tuesday, Oct. 18, the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Lady Blackhawks hosted their annual Dig Pink Night volleyball game at Woonsocket to raise money for area families currently dealing with and undergoing cancer treatment. The event was organized by Woonsocket senior Jeslynn Moody as part of her senior project. The event consisted of a silent auction, ham and cheese sandwich feed, bake sale and a Dakotaland-sponsored chuck-a-duck contest. Between the junior varsity and varsity matches, each SCW volleyball player and coach distributed multi-colored roses and had announced someone in their lives that they were playing either in memory of or in honor of that night.
The Lady Blackhawks dressed in their pink uniforms for the special event and met the Hitchcock/Tulare Lady Patriots for a close battle with SCW losing in four sets with set scores 17-25, 20-25, 25-22 and 20-25.
On Friday, Oct. 21, the Lady Blackhawks hosted the Bridgewater-Emery Lady Huskies at Sanborn Central for their final home game of the regular season. SCW also recognized their senior players just before the varsity game that evening as it was senior night. The varsity match proved to be a nail-biter as the girls battled it out for five sets before the Lady Blackhawks were able to come back from a two set deficit and take hold of the lead and win the final set to be named the winners of the match. The set scores were 22-25, 21-25, 25-22, 25-21 and 15-12.
The Lady Blackhawks traveled to Plankinton to take on the Mt. Vernon/Plankinton Titans for their final match of the regular season. The post season will begin, Thursday, Nov. 1, and opponents will be determined after the final season results are decided.
