William Earl Stange, 77, of Mitchell passed away Thursday, March 21, 2024. 

His memorial service will be held Friday, March 29, at 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Lutheran Church in Mitchell, with Rev. John Hansen officiating. Interment will be held later at Union Cemetery. A memorial visitation was Thursday, March 28, from 5-7 p.m. at Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.

William “Bill” Earl Stange was born Oct. 2, 1946, in Alpena, to Harry and Wilma (Speis) Stange. He attended Woodmansee Country School through the eighth grade and graduated from Lane High School in 1964.  Growing up on the family farm, Billy worked milking cows, tending to the chickens, putting up hay, and helping with countless other chores with his siblings. 

After high school, Bill enlisted in the US Army in the fall of 1964. After his three-year tour, he returned home to start farming for himself. 

On Sept. 18, 1976, he was united in marriage with Nancy (Baade) Stange. They made their home in rural Letcher, near Storla, for the next 38 years. Bill and Nancy eventually retired off the farm and moved to Mitchell in 2014. He was never one to shy away from a long day of work, continuing to help with harvest by driving the combine until 2021. He taught each of his children many aspects of farming.

Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy; children, Laurie (Brian) Schaff of Spearfish, Gregory (Sarah) Stange of Letcher, and Brian Stange of Plankinton; three grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Swenson of Woonsocket, Lois Edwards of Letcher, and Judy (Dick) McQueen of White Lake; sisters-in-law, Jan Stange of Woonsocket, Kay Stange of Sioux Falls, and Ann Stange of Woonsocket; brother-in-law, Dennis (Kathi) Baade of Artesian; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Wilma Stange; sisters, Joyce Bowar and Carol Morgan; brothers, Donald Stange, Bobby Stange, and John Stange; brothers-in-law, Bill Bowar, Edward Swenson, Merle Edwards, and Bill Morgan; nephew, Jason Stange; and his in-laws, Rex and Edna Baade, Joan Schaff Kettlewell, and Darold and Carolyn Brink.

Charlotte Fink

Broadland

Charlotte M. Fink, 70, of Broadland, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Avantara – Huron.

Charlotte’s funeral service was held Saturday, March 23, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wolsey. Burial followed in the Restlawn Cemetery. Visitation with a prayer service was held Friday, March 22, at the Kuhler Funeral Home.

Charlotte Marie (Kogel) Fink was born April 16, 1953, to Clement and Elizabeth (Parker) Kogel, in rural Woonsocket. She attended grade school at Pony Hills Country School in rural Woonsocket from first to eighth grade, and her freshmen through junior year at Lane School. Charlotte attended and graduated her senior year in Wessington Springs.

On Feb. 14, 1974, she married Albert Fink Jr. at Woonsocket. The newly married couple made their home in Mitchell before moving to the Huron area. To this union, four children were born. They settled in Broadland in 1984.

Charlotte was an active member in her church and was the Sunday School Superintendent at St John’s from 1986 to 2001. Among many other duties at the church, she was also an active member of AAL and LWML. She taught preschool for 16 years at Mount Calvary Lutheran in Huron, St. John’s Lutheran in Wolsey, and Concordia Lutheran Church in Wessington. Charlotte was also known for her involvement with selling Tupperware. She loved to read, collect books and magnets, and do crafts. Charlotte loved spending time with friends and family.

She is survived by her husband, Albert Fink Jr.; four children, Aaron (Allegra) Fink of Woonsocket, Angela (Dan) Jahraus of Oklahoma, Amanda (Paul) Raterman of Lane and Andrew (Mandy) Fink of Ree Heights; seven grandchildren; her brother, Dave Kogel of Woonsocket; her sister, Patricia Hammer of Flandreau; and many other relatives. 

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Stephan Kogel; her sister, Pamela Kogel; her in-laws, Darla Kogel, Karen Kogel and Dale Hammer; her stepmother, Irene (Huber) Kogel; and many other relatives.

Lenora Pawlowski

Wessington Springs

Lenora Cora Pawlowski, 88, passed away on March 19, 2024, at Weskota Manor Nursing Home in Wessington Springs. 

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, March 30, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Lenora, and her twin sister Leona, were born on Aug. 30, 1935, in Wessington Springs to Carl and Magdalena (Mettler) Roduner. She was baptized on July 5, 1936, and confirmed on June 25, 1950. Lenora attended Wessington Springs High School, where she met Lyle Pawlowski. She graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1954. She pursued her education at Dakota State University in Madison before transferring to Springfield, where she earned her two-year teaching certificate. Lenora began teaching in a one-room school at the Willman Schoolhouse in 1956.

On June 1, 1958, Lenora married Lyle Pawlowski, in Wessington Springs. They settled in rural Woonsocket before moving to their farm in rural Buffalo County in 1963. Lenora paused her teaching career to raise their family. Lenora was a dedicated mother. She was a 4-H leader for the Buffalo County Rangers and the Valley Springs Rustlers 4-H clubs. She was involved in Zion Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, quilting, and assisting with the annual pancake supper. Lenora later returned to teaching, spending one year in Gann Valley and 12 years at the Spring Valley Colony in rural Jerauld County.

Lenora enjoyed various activities, including spending time with the Senior Citizens group, participating in Red Hat events, Extension Club, and working as an Apartment Dining Aide at Weskota Manor for ten years. She enjoyed summers as a campground host with Lyle at West Bend State Park.

Lenora is survived by her husband of 65 years, Lyle; her children, Lola (Paul) Twedt, Lisa (Jack) Davis, Lee (Tina) Pawlowski, and Lori (JJ) Lafferty; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sisters, Arlena Hauck, Luella Teveldal, and her twin sister, Leona (Lu) Glaser; in-laws, Kenieth Pawlowski, Joe and Valetta Fee, and Glen and Cindi Pawlowski; and many cousins. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers and spouses, Ray and Doris Roduner and Melvin and Evelyn Roduner; a sister-in-law, Betty Pawlowski; and two brothers-in-law, Leonard Teveldal and Alfred Hauck.
