A penny war was held from Jan. 24-28 at Sanborn Central. PreK-12th grade students and staff participated. The fundraiser was held in honor of Jalyn Bender. Jalyn is the daughter of Patrick and Jenica Bender. She is a second-grade student at Sanborn Central. Jalyn had a brain tumor removed on Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Sanford Children’s Castle and is now enduring post-surgical therapy. Sanborn Central raised $1,120.83.
Last place was earned by the staff with a negative $294.96. First place was earned by the second grade (Jalyn’s class) with a positive $73.10. Pennies earn a positive cent while silver coins and dollars earn a negative cent. The winning class received doughnuts, fruit, and juice on Monday, Jan. 31. It’s wonderful to see such generosity!
