Louis “Louie” Robert Podhradsky, 85, Mitchell, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014 at Avera Queen of Peace Hospital in Mitchell.
Visitation was Sunday, March 2 at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell. Private memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Louie was born July 8, 1928 to Walter and Elsie (Shafranek) Podhradsky at Mitchell. He grew up and attended schools in Letcher. On August 21, 1950, he married Doris Tastad at Mitchell. He served in the Korean War while in the U.S. Army from 1950-1953. Since 1960 he owned and operated D & L Implement.
Louie was a member of the First United Methodist Church. For several years he was active in refugee resettlement in the Mitchell community. He also enjoyed playing cards and loved spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; daughter, Debra Scott and husband, John of Mitchell; two sons, Robert and wife, Lori of Mitchell and Scott and wife, Anne-Marie of Wagner; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald, and wife, Joanie of Pierre; and sister-in-law, Ila Uptagraft and husband, Wayne of Rochester, Minn.
Louie was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Wallace; and one sister-in-law, Sharon Podhradsky.
