A stagecoach crafted and sold by Hansen Wheel & Wagon Shop, rural Letcher, was recently used in Quentin Tarantino’s latest film, “The Hateful Eight.”
To help celebrate the movies local debut, wagon shop owner Doug Hansen brought the “sister stagecoach” of the one used in the film to put on display outside of Mitchell’s theatre when the movie opened on Friday, Jan. 22. Hansen said the Concord, Cinderella-style stagecoach on display was “almost the same stagecoach” used in the movie.
The stagecoach appears multiple times in the film and it was reported by those on set the apparatus held up well, despite getting “very abused.”
Hansen says that particular stagecoach takes about 1,600 hours to build. The particular coach sold to the film was at the shop ready to go and not commissioned for the movie.
The shop’s typical clientele includes museums, private collections and corporate entities, along with the occasional film, commercial or TV show. Last year, Hansen Wheel & Wagon shipped a coach to Japan for a Western-type theme park.
