Effective Feb. 5, Supt. Rod Weber will assume responsibility for booking events and collecting rental fees for the Woonsocket Community Center. Ms. Emily Olson (Woonsocket School’s administrative assistant) will assist Weber with the position and run the finances.
Weber can be contacted at the Woonsocket High School or by calling the office phone 605-796-4431, fax 605-796-4352, email at Rod.Weber@K12.sd.us or on his cell 605-350-5374. Olson can be contacted at the same office phone and fax or she can be reached at emily.olson@K12.sd.us or on her cell 605-933-1102.
Weber and Olson have graciously assumed the volunteer duties from Owen Anderson and Gay Swenson, in part because the Woonsocket School District, in cooperation with the Woonsocket Development Corporation and the City of Woonsocket, are combining resources to improve the Community Center, which was built in 1994. Plans are to add an addition to the north side of the building including a raised stage, storage areas and dressing rooms. These improvements are expected to enhance the center’s use and enjoyment for school and community events, such as plays, concerts and dances. The goal for the project is to begin construction at the beginning of this summer.
Fundraising efforts for the remodeling project are ongoing. The last fundraiser, “Sunday Fun-day”, will be held on Sunday, Feb. 28 at the Woonsocket School. The day will host many activities for kids they won’t want to miss. More details will be coming out in a few weeks. Donations for the addition project can be sent to Mr. Rod Weber at PO Box 428, Woonsocket, SD 57385 or to Gay Swenson at 23020 397th Ave., Woonsocket, SD 57385.
So far, the fundraisers and donation plates have raised over $26,000 and the goal is to reach $35,000.
