Sanborn County Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at 9:00 a.m. with Chairman Ebersdorfer presiding. Other members present were: S. Larson, Ohlrogge, Blindauer, and P. Larson. Also present was Auditor Larson. Motion by Ohlrogge, seconded by Blindauer, to approve the minutes as presented. All ayes. Motion carried.
HIGHWAY
Jim Luthi met with the board to discuss wages for weed spraying. No action was taken at this time. Stacy Mendenhall, Highway Superintendent, and Sheri Kogel, Administrative Assistant, met with the board. Road issues are still a concern for the county. Mendenhall presented a request from Jeff Poyer for an approach on 397th Ave on Block 47. Water issues from all the moisture have made access to his storage units difficult. Motion by S. Larson, seconded by P. Larson, to approve the approach with the stipulation that it will have a culvert. All ayes. Motion carried.
RURAL ATTORNEY RECRUITMENT PROGRAM
Suzanne Star with the Rural Attorney Recruitment Program met with the board. They have a candidate who would like to move to Sanborn County. A final decision will be made at the June 4th meeting.
CUSTODIAN
Tom Carda, Custodian, met with the board. The condition of the lawn mower/snow blower was discussed. Carda also reported there are sixteen dead trees around the courthouse. It was decided to wait until fall when the ground is firmer to remove the trees.
MALT BEVERAGE RENEWAL
Hearing no objections, motion by P. Larson, seconded by Blindauer, to renew the malt liquor licenses for Judy Kindle – Al’s Place; Alt Investments – Country Pumper; and John Doren – Doren’s Bar. All ayes. Motion carried.
SUPPLEMENT BUDGET
Motion by Ohlrogge, seconded by S. Larson, to supplement the Emergency Management Budget for $1,500.00 which the towns in Sanborn County contributed to Alertsense. All ayes. Motion carried.
CHARLES MIX JAIL
Motion by S. Larson, seconded by Ohlrogge, to enter into a contract with Charles Mix County for Prisoner Care at $65.00 per day. All ayes. Motion carried.
