William R. Baughfman, 65, of Boyden, Iowa, died Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, in Sanford Sheldon Medical Center at Sheldon, Iowa.
A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in First Reformed Church at Boyden with the Rev. Matthew Draffen officiating and military rites. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are with Vander Ploeg Funeral Home of Boyeden, vanderploegfunerals.com.
William Riesse Baughman was born to Gaylord and Carol (Dill) Buaghfman on May 3, 1947, at Wessington Springs. The family lived in Woonsocket for a number of years.
He graduated from Yankton High School and served in the Army as a Green Beret from 1965-69. He graduated from the University of South Dakota at Vermillion with a bachelor’s degree in history and education.
He owned and operated Baughfman Trucking, retiring in 2005.
He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Boyden, American Legion and the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sheldon. He loved hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two children, Travis of Boyden and Robin Blumeyer of Ashton, Iowa; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two sisters Nyla (Jim) Holman of Rice Lake, Wis., and Sue Kutil of Chamberlain.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Billie Jo; and a sister, Gaye Schnieder.
