Mavis Puetz, 82, Ethan, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 in the Marshall County Medical Center at Britton.
Funeral services were Saturday, Sept. 14 in Holy Trinity Catholic Church at Ethan. Burial was in the church cemetery. A scripture service was held Friday in the Bittner Funeral Chapel.
Mavis Arlene Peart was born Jan. 7, 1931 at Mitchell to Harry Hillard and Henrietta Fredericka (Koepke) Peart. As a youngster, she grew up and attended school in Letcher and Mitchell. Mavis later attended nurses training at St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Pierre, where she received her Licensed Practical Nursing credentials.
On Jan. 20, 1955 Mavis was united in marriage to George William Puetz in Mitchell. The couple lived in Arkansas and Texas while George completed his military duties and returned to South Dakota to make their home in Ethan. There they raised their family of two girls and four boys.
Mavis worked as an LPN in various South Dakota communities. She later devoted her life’s work to being a full-time homemaker and mother.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, George Puetz of Britton; her children, Pam (Terry) Price of Britton, Stephen (Gail) Puetz of Dover, Penn., Linda (Jeff) Weppler of Sioux Falls, Curt (Julie) Puetz of Brookings and Greg (Angelica) Puetz of Fontanna, Calif.; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters-in-law, Ericka Peart of Shadow Hills, Calif. and Maxine Peart of Mitchell; and a brother-in-law, Pat Metoyer of Whittier, Calif.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a son, William Scott Puetz; two grandchildren; three brothers, Arland Peart, Donald Peart and Wendell Peart; and two sisters, LaVonne (James “Jim”) Thompson and Joan Metoyer.
