The Town ‘n Kountry Kids 4-H Club Red Crew met on Nov. 10 at the Sanborn County 4-H Building.
The meeting was called to order by President Jonathan Linke. The flag pledge was led by Emily Ohlrogge and the 4-H pledge was led by Dilyn Brooks. Aaron Linke led roll call with 17 members answering the question, “What is your favorite family holiday?”
The secretary’s report was read by Rex Schlicht and approved as presented. The treasurer’s report was given by Elliott Ohlrogge and approved as presented. The club has bills to pay for 4-H Week supplies.
Reports were given on various events.
Emily told about 4-H week where members promoted wearing green for 4-H, gave out green caramel apple suckers and sponsored a 4-H Coloring Contest.
Acaiya and Isaiah Schultz and Elliott talked about setting barrels at the Heartland Futurity Barrel Race.
Dilyn Brooks explained how they participated in the 4-H Photo Challenge.
Spens Schlicht and Nathan Linke told us what they enjoyed about Recognition Event.
Under old business, the club reviewed completion of goals set for the past year: 100 percent record book turn-in, Youth-in-Action activity participation and fundraising for the 4-H improvement project. All but one member turned in their completed record book, most members participated in Youth-in-Action activities such as public speaking, special foods, fashion revue or judging, and all helped with fruit sales for 4-H fundraising.
For new business, members received their premium money earned for their participation and ribbon placings in 4-H events throughout the year. Families were reminded that they need to re-enroll in 4-H for the 2013-14 year using 4-H Online.
Club goals were discussed and set as follows: 100 percent record book turn-in, Youth-in-Action activity participation, fundraise for 4-H improvement project and work on having more club project days for exhibits.
Plans were made for celebrating American Education Week, which is Nov. 18-22. It was decided to make treats for the teacher break rooms, write special notes to each teacher and staff member, and give them each a specially wrapped water bottle and a pad of sticky notes.
The club plans to decorate a tree at the courthouse for the Christmas season. For a Christmas caring project, the club is going to do a cereal collection for the Sanborn County Food Pantry. We will have collection points at the Courthouse, First National Bank and Woony Foods, working to build a “cereal tree”.
The club is working on new static exhibit display units for the 4-H Building. A new design for one was made by Tyler Eddy this past year. The club plans to make more of these as a county community service project. Stacy Eddy will supervise the making of the display units, and the club has a Modern Woodmen grant of $500 available to go towards the cost. The work day will be planned over the school Christmas break.
Election of officers was held with the following results: President Jonathan, Vice President Rex, Secretary Aaron, Treasurer Elliott, Recreation Brooklyn Swenson and Health and Safety Shaun Snedeker and Nathan Linke.
Club members wrote Thanksgiving notes to their elderly friends and wrote notes to Woonsocket teachers and staff for American Education Week.
The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Dec.15.
