Wayne Garbe, age 71, Huron, formerly of Virgil, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in Sanford SD Medical Center at Sioux Falls.
His funeral service was Monday, July 15, in Holy Trinity Catholic Church Parish with burial in Westlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Wayne Martin Garbe was born to Martin and Mabel (Burma) Garbe on Dec. 15, 1941 at Alpena. He spent his entire life on the family homestead south of Virgil. He attended school at Virgil through the eighth grade, and high school at Alpena, graduating in 1960.
On June 3, 1961, Wayne married Judy Keleher at Woonsocket. Wayne farmed the homestead until ill health forced his retirement. Wayne and Judy moved to Huron in December 2011.
He was presently a member of Carlyle Township Board of Directors and Holy Trinity Catholic Parish.
Wayne loved farming and ranching with his two sons, and especially enjoyed shooting pool and winning the state pool tournament two years in a row. He faithfully followed his children and grandchild in their sporting events and activities.
He is survived by his wife, Judy of Huron; three children, Gary (Sheila) Garbe of Virgil, Terry (Paula) Garbe of Virgil and Renee (Jeff) Younie of Alpena; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Linda (Dick) Easton of Wessington Springs and Diane (Lowrance) Horn of Gillette, Wyo.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
